How to Create the Perfect Wedding Hashtag

Yep. You know you want one but you have no clue where to start.

Creating the perfect hashtag for your wedding can be hard. You want it to represent you and your partner as a couple, you want it to be memorable, and you want guests to actually use it.

Here are all of our tips and tricks for creating your perfect wedding hashtag!

Start off simple

Write down a list of the easiest things that are commonly included in a wedding hashtag:

  • Your first and last names

  • Wedding location or venue

  • Wedding date

  • Nicknames for each other

Enlist help If neither you or your partner are creative, enlist some help! Gather your wedding party and/or close family members and friends to help you. You can even make this a fun night where you all get together at someone’s house to brainstorm and do some other wedding planning activities!

Use online generators If you just need some help getting started, there are plenty of online hashtag generators out there. The free versions won’t create anything unique or very original, but they can be a good starting point to get some ideas flowing! If you’re willing to spend some money on it, there are also paid versions of this where you can pay a team of people to come up with some hashtag ideas for you. These will be much more personalized to you as a couple!

Get punny and creative Your wedding hashtag will be a memorable piece of your wedding day, so feel free to get creative with it! You can even make a pun or two out of it. For example, this couple decided to use the family name "Kaine" for their hashtag and #KaineYouFeelTheLove was born! We made sure to show it off on our Cotton Candy Cart and it made a lot of guests smile!

Avoid misspellings Keep in mind that it can be easy for guests to misspell your hashtag! And if this happens, you run the risk of never getting to see the pictures that they posted. To avoid this, there are a couple things that you can do. First, once you finalize your hashtag, say it out loud! If you find yourself having trouble saying it, then it is very likely that guests will have trouble with it (especially once the drinks start flowing)! Another thing to do is to check and make sure that each word of your hashtag flows easily. For example, #AnyaandDavid should be changed to #DavidandAnya to avoid people misspelling it! Another thing to consider is making each word capitalized so that it’s easy to figure out.

Check if it’s been used before Finally, make sure that your wedding hashtag hasn’t been used by anyone else. You don’t want to take over someone else’s hashtag! If you absolutely love yours but it’s already been used, consider adding your wedding date or year to the end.

How to share your hashtag with your guests Once you have your perfect wedding hashtag figured out, you want to make sure that guests know about it! Otherwise, you kind of defeat the purpose. First, be sure to put it on everything that goes out to guests before the wedding! This includes your wedding website, save-the-dates, and invitations. This way, it will be in guests minds before they even get to the wedding, so they’ll be more likely to use it! Another pro tip is to use your own wedding hashtag before the wedding! Any time you post a picture while you’re wedding-planning, like when you get your marriage license or are going cake tasting, use your hashtag! This is another way to get it in guests minds before the wedding.

Finally, incorporate the hashtag into your wedding signage. This could be on your cocktail napkins at the bar or on a sign at one of your decorative tables (like the guest book or favours table). We love adding it to our Sweet Carts, Backdrops, Photobooths and Welcome Signs!

P.S.: If you have a wedding planner, they can certainly help you to come up with the perfect hashtag!
